7. Dream Golf 18; Author: David Barrett, Publisher: Abrams
As an exercise in daydreaming and nice Christmas present, The Dream Golf 18 years fulfills its mission. Its author, David Barrett is well suited to the task and the picture, mainly the work of LC (Larry) Lambrecht, Russell Kirk and a host of other names, says the scenic drive is excellent. Its subtitle, "Fantasy courses consisting of more than 300 holes around the world" illustrates both the strengths and weaknesses of the book. On the one hand, if you're a fan of big holes, they're here - stuck in chapters such as "Hard Holes" "Mountain Holes," "Historic holes", and "Holes Anyone can play." Moreover, there was really no reason weight to the group of these holes 18. Holes are just big, period.
8. The downhill lie; Author: Carl Hiaasen; Publisher: Alfred A. Knopf
OK, this was a 2008 version, but I did not read it until 2009. And this year, when it can use a good laugh, The Downhill Lie provides a full belly. I read this on a plane ride and the oxygen necessary because almost took my breath until the appearance of cracks.
Subtitled, "The return of a hacker to a ruinous sport", The Downhill Lie reconnection details the author's apparently wrong with the sport of his childhood after 32 years away. His everyday hardships are among the most amusing account about struggling with the golf I've read. Hiaasen Take the first line in the preface: "So many people blame for this book, which is difficult to know where to start." Over time, it is promoted then skewers everything from pendants experience for drivers. Everything is hysterical. Based in Florida Hiaasen, whose best-selling novels include Skinny Dip, Sick Puppy and Lucky You is not going to like to the Gentiles. But if you love golf and love the absurd, has never been a better reading.
9. A son of the game Author: James Dodson; Publisher: Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill
Sitting with a book by James Dodson golf is like slipping into your old pair of sneakers next to a cozy home. If you are fond of that types of commodities, it is easy'll warm to this vibrant, poignant, humorous, story explores such universal themes like coming home and connecting with their children. If you not a fan of the old soft shoe, you might want to head elsewhere. Dodson, who wrote perhaps the greatest golf course / / sentimental family history of all Final Phase definitely can pour in the syrup, but this book is soaked with him - and asks questions and raises questions that any reader can identify. 10. A course called Ireland; Author: Tom Coyne, Publisher: Penguin / Gotham
Imagine playing each course great Irish Sea, plus all the hidden gems - not bad duty. Now imagine it on foot - both during and outside. Now that is wild - and is the premise of the story of remarkable adventures Tom Coyne. Subtitled "A long journey in search of a country, a pint, and the next tee, a course called Ireland is blessed with a living writing travel first class, where all your senses are stimulated. Coyne covers courses quite well, but it's the characters, roads, food and life lessons that really pop. I would say Hiking descriptions can overwhelm sometimes, so it is best to take this in small doses, but over time, Take It All in it worth the trip.
